DAILI Flat Back Earrings

The argument for a flat back is not comfort in general, it is one specific hour of the night. A butterfly clutch has two wings and a rim, and lying on that side presses all three into the skin behind the ear; by morning the hole is tender and you take the earring out, which is how a piercing you paid for turns into a hole that closes. A flat disc has nothing standing off it. It sits against the skin the way a coin sits on a table, and the front of the earring is the only part with any height to it.

The pieces here split by how the front attaches. A screw back has a thread cut into the post: the front turns on, tightens, and does not move again until you turn it back, which is what you want in a hole you cannot see. A threadless post has no thread at all: the end has a pin bent to a few degrees, and the tension of that bend holds it in the tube. It comes apart in your fingers with no small parts to drop, and it goes back the same way, once you have felt it click. Neither is right for a hole that is still healing: what a fresh piercing asks for is set out by the Association of Professional Piercers, and it is not a five-dollar pair.
