Gauge is a wire scale and it runs backwards: the bigger the number, the thinner the metal. Twenty gauge is eight tenths of a millimetre, the thinnest in this catalogue, and it is the size most nostril piercings are made at in the first place. That is the whole reason this page exists: the number is the one thing about a nose stud that cannot be judged from a photograph, and ordering the wrong one gives you either a post that turns in the hole all day or one that will not pass through it at all.
What 20G is good at is sitting still and being forgotten. What it is not good at is being opened and closed: a 20G hoop worked twice a week goes out of round faster than an 18G one, and a 20G horseshoe has less spring to fight you but also less to hold its shape. If you take a hoop in and out daily, the heavier wire is the better buy. If the piece goes in and stays in for a month at a time, 20G is lighter in the nose and you will stop noticing it by the second day.

Is a DAILI 20G nose ring thinner or thicker than 18G?
Thinner. The gauge scale counts backwards: 20G is 0.8 mm, 18G is 1.0 mm, 16G is 1.2 mm. If your piercing was made at 18G, a 20G post will move about in it, and the movement is what makes a settled hole complain.
How do you find out what gauge your nose piercing is?
Ask the studio that made it, it is on their paperwork. Failing that, take a piece you wear comfortably to a piercer and have it measured; guessing between 0.8 and 1.0 millimetres by eye is not something anyone does reliably. Once you know the number, every card on this site answers straight away.
