The tragus is the small flap of cartilage in front of the ear canal, and it is the placement where a flat back stops being a preference and becomes the practical answer. The back of the earring sits inside the ear, against the opening of the canal, where a clutch scratches and a long post presses. Everything on this page has a smooth disc there and nothing else. It is also the placement you fit blind: it is directly beside your own eye and no mirror shows it properly, so the pieces that go in by feel are the ones that get worn.
Fronts are small here for a reason that has nothing to do with taste. A tragus stands proud of the head at an angle, and a wide stone on it collides with earbuds, a phone held to the ear and the arm of a pair of glasses. Three to five millimetres clears all three. The threadless pieces are the easier of the two to fit in this placement, because the front pushes in rather than needing to be turned in a space where you cannot get two fingers round the post.

Will a DAILI tragus earring get in the way of earbuds?
A flat back sits inside the ear and a stud front sits outside it, so an earbud has to share the space with the front. Three and four-millimetre fronts usually clear; a six-millimetre stone usually does not, and the ones that do not, you find out about on the first bus journey. This page carries the smaller fronts for that reason.
How do you fit a DAILI tragus earring without seeing it?
Push the post through from the outside with the disc already on the inside, and use the fingernail of your other hand as a stop behind the flap. Threadless fronts push straight on; screw fronts turn a half-turn at a time. Doing it over a table saves the front from a carpet the first few times.
What gauge is a tragus usually pierced at?
Most tragus piercings are made at 18G or 16G, and the cards on this page print 20G and 18G. If your hole was made at 16G, a thinner post will move about in it. The studio that pierced it will tell you the gauge, and it is the number worth having written down.
