A helix sits on the curved outer rim at the top of the ear, and the curve is what decides the piece. A hoop follows it, and that is how a helix comes to be the placement people buy a hoop for first; but a hoop that is too big stands away from the rim and hooks on a jumper coming off. Six and eight millimetres are the two sizes that hug it. A stud avoids that problem entirely and creates another one: it has to be short enough that the disc behind does not press on the fold of cartilage under the rim.
Fronts stay small on this page for a reason that shows itself in a photograph. A helix is high on the head and close to hair; a six-millimetre stone up there reads as jewellery from a metre away and catches every brushstroke. Three and four millimetres read as a point of light and disappear into the ear when you are not looking at them, which is what most people who stack two or three helix holes are after. If you are wearing more than one, put the larger front in the lowest hole and step down as you go up.

Do DAILI helix hoops fit a fresh helix piercing?
No. A helix takes months rather than weeks to settle, and the jewellery for that period is chosen by the person who made the hole. Everything on this page is for a helix that is healed, and if yours is still sore or crusting the answer is the studio, not a new hoop.
