DAILI Septum Rings

A septum ring hangs from the thin strip of tissue between the nostrils, and the piece has to do something no other piece in this catalogue does: disappear. A horseshoe with the gap facing up can be rotated so the whole ring sits inside the nose, which is the trick everyone with a job that disapproves of one already knows. That is why the shape is a horseshoe rather than a closed ring, and why the ends screw off: the piece has to turn freely in the hole without a hinge to catch.

Diameter here is measured across the inside and it decides how the ring hangs. Six and eight millimetres sit close under the nose; ten drops clear of it and swings. Gauge is heavier than on the rest of the nose shelf: 16G and 18G, because a septum ring carries its weight on a fold that moves every time you speak.
